Tanya Hyde & The Tormentors were from St.Albans in Hertfordshire.

........in their own words

"High Energy Rock"n"Roll,"77 Music."

Tanya Hyde & the Tormentors came together after local face Pete Sutton, teamed up with Tanya (ex-Words) and Ronnie (ex-Crossfire), along with the mysterious Wilcock (found through a Melody Maker advert) on drums, in January  77. After three weeks of rehearsals the band played their first gig, then the next day cut their demo tape which gained the interest of 19 record labels, all wanting a punk act on their label, Virgin looked favourites to get their signature, unfortunately nothing happened! Although their co-manager, Barry Clarke, gig promoter at City Hall in St.Albans, got them many a tasty gig ,their mix of original material and standards (the kids are alright, sha la la la lee, under my thumb, poison ivy, lets spend the night together, etc) never really found favour. Like many 77 acts they soon faded away...... their only vinyl legacy was a few years later when Tanya Hyde released a solo sub-disco single called "Herr Wunderbar"..........Punk Rock it was not!
